Details of Khalil Macks Contract

Playing as an outside linebacker in the NFL, Khalil Mack represents the Los Angeles Chargers after the team decided to acquire him on March 16, 2022. In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders selected him (now called the Las Vegas Raiders). He agreed to terms with the Raiders on a four-year, $18.67 million contract.

The Raiders chose to exercise Mack’s fifth-year option, but he was eventually traded to the Chicago Bears in the year 2018. He agreed to a six-year-long contract with the Chicago Bears valued at $141 million with a $90 million guarantee. This contract put Khalil at the top on the list of the top paid NFL defenders.

When the Chicago Bears took in Khalil Mack, they broke the bank, acquiring him through trade-in in September of the year 2018 and promptly signing him to a $141 million, six-year contract deal. It was the richest contract ever earned by the greatest defensive player in NFL history at the time.

Mack’s tenure at Soldier Field has come to an end. And he’s returning to the AFC West to face Joey Bosa, another massive edge defender.

After closely missing the playoffs this year due to a Week 18 blowout loss to Mack’s former Raiders, the LA Chargers are undoubtedly convinced that this has been the step that will put them over the top and help them achieve their first AFC designation in nearly three decades.

So, what are the financial consequences for both clubs, as well as the superstar himself, in the future? Let’s get into the Khalil Mack transaction in detail.

Current Contract of Khalil Mack

Khalil Mack agreed to a 6-year, $141 million contract with the Chicago Bears with the following breakdown:

  • Signing bonus of $34 million
  • Guaranteed pay of $90 million
  • and an average yearly salary of $23.5 million.

Mack will get a $12.05 million basic salary, a $5.5 million roster bonus, as well as a $200,000 workout bonus in 2022, with a $17.5 million cap hit and a dead cap value of $24 million.

How Much Does Khalil Mack Make?

Khalil Mack’s current deal with the Chargers is indeed a year-extended version of his $141 million deal with the Bears.

He will earn $63,900,000 if he completes the remainder of his contract with the Chargers. His average yearly income stands at around $23.5 million, and the contract allows him to earn almost $22.9 million in 2022.

How Much of Khalil Mack’s Contract is Guaranteed?

The trade-in that the Los Angeles Chargers did with the Chicago Bears does not provide any guaranteed pay for Khalil Mack, a positive for the team as they can get out in case it doesn’t work out. In his original contract with the Chicago Bears, he was paid $90 million.

Khalil Mack’s initial contract with the Bears has three years remaining on it. The Chargers must pay him a $5.5 million roster bonus for each season if he is eligible. He is also qualified for a $200,000 workout bonus for each of his leftover seasons. In 2025, the agreement will be automatically terminated.
